Aslıhan Demirtaş and Her Practice of “An Architecture of Protecting, Raising, And Preserving Its Own Nature” was on Arredamento Mimarlık

Aslıhan Demirtaş faculty member of our Department of Architecture and her architectural practice of KHORA, was hosted by Arredamento Mimarlık, one of the long-established journals of the architectural community of Turkey in its July-August 2020 issue.

Merve Bedir, partner of the Land+Civilization Compositions and faculty member of Hong Kong University, was the file editor and the authors included names like Sibel Bozdoğan, Yağmur Yıldırım, Nandini Bagchee, Ares Shporta, and Alp Tekin Ocak who are closely acquainted with Demirtaş’s professional profile, research and practice. In different essays, they interpreted the contextual frame of Demirtaş and KHORA evaluated her works, outcome of meticulous research and practice. Meanwhile, the file featured an online meeting, moderated also by Merve Bedir and conducted with the participation of Ali Taptık, Meriç Öner, Özge Ersoy, H. Sinan Omacan, and Tansel Korkmaz. The meeting issued the practical aspects of Demirtaş’s research.

In her introduction to the file, Editor Merve Bedir defines the practice of Aslıhan Demirtaş as a criticism of Modernity and states that: “…Demirtaş emphasizes the importance of inserting human into dominant ideologies. Another common characteristic of her work is transferring and sharing the experience of making/producing between the works and the people, thus the process of utilization follows the process of production naturally.”
