Of which discipline is designing in archaeological areas a specific branch: architectural composition, interior design, or perhaps architectural restoration ? Does designing in archaeological areas imply a specific knowledge in the research fields of history and archaeology? Around these main questions, the lecture will propose a methodological approach to such design activity, which is probably somewhere between design-archaeology-history-restoration. Needless to say that any design activity in such areas might require the expertise of more than one specialist, but it is also recommended that the designer, who inevitably will define forms, figures and materials therein, does understand all the above mentioned disciplines and is able to produce a synthesis solution.
